Leah Tavasi

Hi! I'm Leah. I am a 3rd Year NERC DTP Environmental Research in Archaeology and Geography. I completed my MSc in Archaeology at Oxford in 2022. I have a BA in Classical History/Languages and Psychology from McGill University. My PhD focuses on combining maritime archaeology with environmental marine science.

Poppy Moulis

Hi! I’m Poppy, the VP of the GAO. I’m studying for a DPhil in Classical Archaeology, focussing in particular on the archaeology of women’s touch in Thessaly and Boeotia during the Classical and Hellenistic periods. I am approaching the archaeological record from a theoretical perspective, exploring how women’s identity was constituted and reinforced through their haptic and interpersonal interactions.

Eloise Wilkinson-Rowe

Hello, I’m Elo, the treasurer for GAO this year! I’m a second year DPhil in Archaeological Science (on the NERC DTP) studying volcanic ash layers around NW Africa to better understand the timing of early human evolution in this region.

Marguerite Waechter-Eliez

Hi, I’m Marguerite! I'm a third year DPhil student on the NERC DTP and this year's GAO Secretary! My research focuses on upland land uses in the British late prehistoric period and their long-lasting impact on ecosystems. As the Secretary, I help to run the club smoothly by managing the website or organising meetings and elections.

Jana Nedelkoska

Hi, I'm Jana! I'm studying for an MSt in Classical Archaeology and my research focuses on embodied experiences of pregnancy and childbirth within Ancient Greece and the wider Mediterranean. I organise the weekly Classical Archaeology Roundtable, a work-in-progress seminar where students can present their research in a welcoming environment. Outside of that, I am also here to represent you and your needs to the faculty so don't hesitate to reach out!

Hi! I’m Katherine. I’m an MSc archaeology student specializing in Medieval Archaeology. I hold a BS in Anthropology with a focus on archaeology and material culture from the University of Maryland. My MSc research at Oxford focuses on Medieval death and burial practices in Europe.

Mikayla Coad

Hello, I'm Mikayla, and I am the GAO Lab Rep. I am a 3rd year DPhil Archaeological Science Candidate. My research focuses on ceramics form the Middle and Late Bronze Age in the Northern Levant, looking at changes in production and technological style through time via archaeometric analyses. When I am not at my desk in RLAHA or the Petrography lab I can be found doing any fiber or fabric craft (sewing, knitting, cross stitching, etc). Jay Mok is a DPhil in Maritime Archaeology. Her research interests include maritime archaeology and history in East and Southeast Asia, gender archaeology, decolonial approaches to archaeology, and cultural heritage studies.

Liz Gilkey

Hello, I’m Elizabeth - an artist, writer, and DPhil student in Archaeology. I hold a BA in Archaeology and Ancient Studies from Sweet Briar College in Virginia, an MA in Classics from the University of London, and an MA in Archaeology from UCL. My doctoral research explores the material culture of psychological warfare in the World Wars. I also write the Meet the Fellows series for the Society of Antiquaries and host the podcast The Ancient Palate. Beyond archaeology, I’m often found hosting Wine Club at University Women’s Club in London.

Vianne Storrs

Hi! I am Vianne and I’m studying for an MSt in Classical Archaeology at Brasenose College. I completed my B.A. at the University of British Columbia in Ancient Mediterranean and Near Eastern studies with my honours thesis reconstructing an ancient mosaic assemblage at the House of Ikarios in Tunisia. My research focuses on how the built environment and its embellishments shaped daily life in Roman North Africa. When I am not helping coordinate the GAO’s skills seminars, you can find me wandering around the Ashmolean or drinking copious amounts of instant coffee!
